Beautiful story Pastor Tim, thank you Jesus!

Pam! Loved the long breath at the end of your song. Just like the anchor that holds, right? 🎶

Order of Service April 14 2024@11am Eastern
Second Presbyterian Church Oil City, Pennsylvania
April 14, 2024 Third Sunday of Easter

Prelude Tech Crew
Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship (based on Psalm 4)
L/ Alleluia. Christ is risen.
P/ He is risen indeed. Alleluia
L/ Know that God hears our cries and sets us free. Know that God does wonders for the faithful.
P/ Put your trust in the Lord, not in your own expectations nor in the world around you.
L/ The Light of God’s face shines upon us and gladness of heart is a gift from above
P/ In God alone do we rest secure.

Hymn of Praise: # 68 There’s Wideness in God’s Mercy

Assurance and Confession
L/ Christ Himself bore our sins on the cross so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. (1 Peter 2:24) Let us now silently confess our sins and our need for the Salvation won by Christ Jesus.
<silent confession>
P/ Risen Lord, we confess that we are focused on our own welfare to the point of sin. We cherish and hold onto things and position in this world. We are stingy with our money and resources. We expect to only give from our excess and to reap reward from all our actions. We love when loved back, give when thanked, and invest only in that which gives us a return. Convict us of the covenant reality in the light of Your resurrection and focus us on Your Truth. Send Your Holy Spirit upon us again that we might walk together in Your sight and see to the needs of all. Teach us to be Your Beloved Community and demonstrate to the world what it really means to follow You and to be saved—hospitable, generous, kind, worshipful, full of gratitude, faithful and trusting You, a justice minded and servant hearted loving community, members of Your family.

L/ Hear these words of scripture: “God will keep you strong until the end, so that you will be blameless on the Day of our Lord Jesus. God who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus is faithful.”
(1 Corinthians 1:8-9) You and I are set free from sin in the death of Jesus and made a New Creation in His resurrection. Alleluia! Amen!

Affirmation of Faith (Early Creed from Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15: 1-6 and Matthew 16:16)
All/ This is the Good News which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved if we hold fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that He was buried, and that He was raised up on the third day. He appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, then to many other faithful witnesses and finally to me. So we believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Lord’s Prayer (using debts)

Antiphon: #64 All Creatures of our God and King (verse 1 only)

Prayer of Thanksgiving (from our Reformed Tradition)
L/ Living and Holy God, as You sent Jesus to bring us to Life so teach us to listen to Him and build a community of healing and Christian faith. Thank You for Your love and grace shown in the cross and in the resurrection truth. Bring us unity in this faith, a unity in Jesus. Bring us healing from worship of ourselves and things that You created but that we ascribe to power or replacement of Your glory (save us from idols). Teach us to be a people committed to justice, to Gospel telling, and to compassion. Fill us with the Holy Spirit that with Peter we too might bring what we have—healing in Jesus’s name. Amen. (Mongolian Evangelical Alliance, 2023)

Benediction
